Continued From Newsletter Thomas Roberts, NOAH’s Executive Director, says this is the first of a substantial amount of new housing in the Belle Glade area. "Not only are we providing new housing for low income families, but we are creating a better community as well," says Roberts. "The homes will create valuable assets for families and eventually they will have earned equity in the home which can be used for other purposes such as education for their children and owning their own business." Roberts also says the new housing adds stability and value to local neighborhoods, thus helping to improve the community. Marie Vilson, a teaching assistant at NOAH, will be a new resident at Covenant Gardens and is excited about moving in. She is also happy about the move because this will be the first home she has ever owned. "I have two children, so it is important to have a nice environment and neighborhood for them to live in," says Vilson. "I move in a few months and it will be a nicer place to live, plus closer to my work. It has a lot of benefits for me." Vilson signed up for the new housing program at NOAH, and the staff helped her with the necessary paperwork to buy her home. "Individuals interested in owning one of these properties can apply at the NOAH office," says Roberts. "Special Assistant, Cheryl Tomlin, can help individuals with the application and instructions on how to prepare home buyers for the buying process." The average cost for one of the town homes at Covenant Gardens ranges from $135,000 - 160,000.Return to Newsletter
