Staff is in intense training to make sure they are able to meet all criteria required for certification and to be prepared for the on-site review which is expected to be done by July 1.

“Even though NOAH is just starting the certification process… the agency is clearly committed to pursuing excellence in nonprofit management,” said Alexandria Douglas-Bartolone of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, who met with members of NOAH.

Once an agency has certification, Douglas-Bartolone offers her five top benefits. Certified nonprofits can:

  • Use the Certification assessment Tool checklist to conduct inventory of business practices and identify strengths and weaknesses
  • Identify where they need help with board and/or staff development, and what technical assistance and training needs they have
  • Reduce duplicative monitoring visits because this one review satisfies requirements of multiple grantors.
  • Implement policies and procedures to improve the quality,
efficiency and accountability of internal management
  • Become more competitive for funding when they show certification for sound nonprofit management.

For Building Blocks, make that “excellent” nonprofit management.
